The Mandalorian (Season 2)

“May the 4th be with you” – mantra of every STAR WARS nerd

“The Mandalorian” is one of the rare series that managed to do three things. It managed to make the retarded year 2020 more bearable, showed it’s possible for a second season of a series to be better than the first, and most importantly, it restored hope to Star Wars fans that “Disney” will make an effort to do something quality for their favorite franchise, and not just milk it to exhaustion.

The plot follows the end of the first season. Our brave Mando (Din Djarin) with the cute green baby Yoda wanders the galaxy, with the goal of fulfilling his task, which is to reunite the baby with members of his race. However, they’re also targets of the cryptic Moff Gideon, who wants to get hold of little Yoda because of his powers… and his intentions aren’t good at all. Whether Mando and baby Yoda will get out alive, you’ll find out in the second season of “The Mandalorian.”

As written in the first paragraph, “The Mandalorian” raised everything to an even higher level and drastically improved.

This space western is visually and musically even better than it was in the first season. Our Mando in full Mandalorian gear looks truly impressive, but also intimidating, and gives off that samurai vibe. And on top of that, he’ll later get one very powerful close combat weapon.

There’s of course the always cute baby Yoda, who’s even more adorable, more stubborn and naughtier than before, and will know how to get Mando into trouble.

I particularly liked two details in the second season of “The Mandalorian,” which I also consider key to the series’ success.

The first is the connection of almost every episode of the second season with some event from the previous one. Mando and baby Yoda will visit many locations from the first season and see how the consequences of their actions affected current events, and meet many old acquaintances who will again need help, and who will themselves help our duo, as well as those who will hinder them (Greef Karga, Dr. Pershing, Kuiil, Peli Motto, Cara Dune, Fennec Shand, Migs and many others).

The second detail is related to many new characters who appeared in the series, which will especially be a treat for those who are big Star Wars series fans, who know about this universe not just from films, but also from some other media, like the legendary Boba Fett, Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan, Cobb Vanth… one of the biggest surprises is definitely Mando’s meeting with the former padawan (student) of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, Ahsoka Tano. That episode is particularly interesting.

Rosario Dawson turned out great in the role of Ahsoka

Of course, the biggest treat is hidden in the last episode, when at the end one legendary Jedi will appear… I wouldn’t reveal much to you, I’ll just say his name rhymes with “Luke Skywalker,” shhhh…. and when you see how the episode ends, even the toughest tough guy will shed a tear.

The acting is still at a top level. Pedro Pascal is excellent as Mando, and really manages to show a lot, both when wearing the helmet and when without it. What I wrote in the first season review stands here too:

“Mando… Pedro Pascal didn’t have an easy task at all, you must admit. He constantly had to wear a helmet (we see his face only in flashbacks related to his childhood, and as an adult only for a few seconds in one scene), and his hero was conceived as a man of few words. Despite everything, I think he carried his role very well with his Clint Eastwood/John Wick/samurai approach. Through his pauses in responses, sighs, body language, I think you can feel the intention to present a hero who, however much he tries to stoically endure everything, on the other hand has difficulty restraining himself from emotions of anger, fear, sadness, and even disappointment.”

Baby Yoda is still cute… but still complicates Mando’s life…

Right after Pascal is Giancarlo Esposito as the cryptic villain(?) Moff Gideon, who won quite a bit of sympathy for his role, as well as Rosario Dawson, who gave us insight into a calmer and more mature Ahsoka Tano (especially if you remember the “Clone Wars” series, everything becomes clear :D), and let’s not forget the excellent Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett.

Despite the fact that Jon Favreau wrote all episodes, and directors (as last time) were diverse, the quality of episodes didn’t decline.

How quality “The Mandalorian” series is, sufficient proof is that “Disney” gave green light to make as many as three spinoffs: “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Rangers of the New Republic” and “Ahsoka.” I don’t know about you, I’m particularly interested in how the first and third titles will turn out.

All in all, if you haven’t watched “The Mandalorian” series before, now is the perfect opportunity to start. And fans of the Star Wars universe I believe are eagerly awaiting the third season. 🙂

How can you not await the third season after such a second season finale?

Oh yes, now you’ll also learn baby Yoda’s real name. 😀

And you, dear reader, have you already started watching the series “The Mandalorian”? 🙂
