He hated…

Mrzeti... I tri tačke

He hated… yeeees… believing that had now become a real word.

He hated how the weather had become so unpredictable.

When it should be sunny, rain suddenly starts. And the worst kind, as if someone turned the shower on full blast. And all of it accompanied by gloomy, depressing weather. So depressing that even depression itself would fall into depression.

And when it should be raining, then the sun beats down so hard that even the wind gets too hot, so it too tries to hide in the shade, at least briefly. If in Greek mythology the sun god Helios, depicted with a blazing solar crown and flaming chariot, rides through the celestial blue, then it’s as if that same deity deliberately comes closer to Earth when it’s time to illuminate this part of the planet. You know, out of spite and amusement.

He hated people no less.

Corrupt, cunning, vain, depraved, who only look after their own personal interests. And constantly in some kind of rush. And even when they’re not in a rush, they pretend they are. Probably wanting to show the world how important they are, for people to think, “Look how this person is rushing, striding with quick and powerful steps. They must have some important business.” When in reality, most likely, they’ll just duck into some café and endlessly swipe their thumb or index finger left-right on their phone. Whether to watch videos of dogs, feel envy over the fake glamour radiating from photos of their contacts-so-called-friends, or share their fake happiness with a fake image on social media, it doesn’t matter. Everyone’s obsessed with some kind of fame, the desire to be “seen.” It doesn’t matter to them how they actually see themselves, the only legitimate recognition they see is in other people’s comments about them.

He also hated people’s obsession with money. He knows well, today without money a person is nobody and nothing. But how that greed gnaws at and poisons people… are they even aware of it? They’re ready to sell both themselves and others for a handful of bills. To lie, steal, cheat and stab anyone in the back they can reach. Most people would just shrug with the comment “That’s life. Accept it.” Perhaps only some quiet voice would dare to say “No, that’s just a matter of each person’s choice.”

He hated the crowds in public transport. People who frantically push to get into buses and trams, as if they were temples of saints, and that if they manage to squeeze into one, they’ll be cured of all diseases, spiritual and physical. And if there happens to be a free seat… it matters that you sat down first, it doesn’t matter whether you’re old or young, sick or healthy. However, it doesn’t seem to matter that you didn’t shower that day…

And because of that he hated people’s behavior and their culture. Better said, lack of culture.

Please. Thank you. You’re welcome. I’m sorry.

These words seem to have gotten lost somewhere like many of Nikola Tesla’s writings, or are locked behind some multi-million dollar safe, like the secret of Coca-Cola, so they can’t be easily accessed. Youth doesn’t respect old age, and old age doesn’t look very favorably on youth either. One side blames the other and vice versa. A vicious circle of criticism.

And how could he not hate…

Someone’s palms covered his view and, suddenly, darkness everywhere. His train of thought stopped.

The scent was familiar. That sweet note of peach.

He felt her lips on his. The taste of elderberry juice.

“Have you drunk your coffee yet?”

“No…” he mumbled.

“Well, why didn’t you drink it right away when you sat down, you know yourself how grumpy you can be before your morning coffee?” she laughed.

A couple of moments later, two coffees were cooling on the table.

Double espresso with a little milk for him, instant with lots of milk for her. She couldn’t drink “strong” coffee, without milk. Sensitive stomach.

He felt her fingers on his clenched fist.

“Does your leg hurt?”

“It hurts…” he answered softer and quieter than he intended. However, he couldn’t direct his gaze toward her.

Because he knew that if he looked into her eyes, then he would forget what he should hate next…
